Memory #1 (Starter Memory)

Memory #1:Ode to Joy. [To be or not to be a kitten killer. ↔ Ch57P14-24] (Trivial Positive)

What he remembered/learned:
- Ruins everywhere!
- "Ode to Joy" was enjoyable.
- He has the strong impression he wasn't as lost as he told Shinji: he was lying?
- Killed a kitten who "was going to die anyway."
- Shinji wasn't very happy to met him.
- He felt a lot of curiosity towards Shinji.

What this means:
First of all, Kaworu is very, very complex! My interpretation of Kaworu without any memories is that, at his core, Kaworu is even more incapable of feeling and understanding emotions than he is in the manga. He spent several years in SEELE (Kaworu was born during the Second Impact, so that means he's been alive since then) and we have no idea how his life was like, but since he was meant to be kept in secret, maybe this is where he's lived all this time.

Which means that Kaworu has an inherent desire to understand how humans work as a whole (feelings, emotions, morals, personal space, society, EVERYTHING). As the reincarnation of Adam's soul and the last Angel, Tabris, that represents Free Will, Kaworu's interest came originally from his own nature! Because he was curious about Lilith's children and how they've decided to live (humans came from Lilith). Late on he focused mostly on Shinji because he was the most interesting human he talked to, and because SEELE had ordered him to keep an eye on him. THAT CHANGED SOON AFTER, but since Kaworu's curiosity was so vital and important, it made sense to make him keep that. That's also why I knew that freedom was so relevant, too.

Kaworu learned from this memory that he somehow can play a song he's never played on an instrument he's never used before, which makes him wonder how that could be possible and later he dismissed it. He also knows Shinji, that he killed a small animal out of kindness, but that apparently what he did was wrong. He knows he's the Fifth Child, but what does that even mean? He feels a growing interest in Shinji, but he can't understand why. It got stronger when he met him in Aather, too.

Also, as a note, Kaworu is generally honest! And in Aather he's more frank and even more willing to poke at people. But yeah, this memory was a way good to start.
